Prof. Doralyn S. Dalisay, Ph. D. from the Biology Program, College of Liberal Arts, Sciences, and Education of the University of San Agustin is one of the 50 all-Filipino team of scientists seen off by Pres. Rodrigo R. Duterte aboard the BRP Davao del Sur last May 15, 2018 in Aurora, Quezon to explore the Philippine Rise, a portion of which was declared as marine resource reserve by virtue of PD 489.
The all-Filipino team of scientists will be doing a Coordinated National Marine Scientific Research Initiatives and Related Activities (CONMIRA) in the underwater plateau.
In a briefing with the press, Prof. Dalisay explained that the team will be studying marine microorganisms thriving in the Philippine Sea. They will also locate the geochemistry of the area.
A Balik-Scientist of the Department of Science and Technology, Prof. Dalisay emphasized the importance of exploring carefully the Philippine Rise in order to competently manage and sustain it. This marine resource reserve is promising as it can be a source of new drugs and antibiotics against pervasive illnesses such as cancer, dengue, and malaria.
Prof. Dalisay earned her doctorate degree in Microbiology and Immunology from the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. She was recently conferred the rank, Full Professor, by the University of San Agustin where she graduated Cum Laude, B. S. Pharmacy. – USA/jag
