UNIVERSITY OF SAN AGUSTIN ALUMNI ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS 2017 CATEGORY LEVEL SELECTION COMMITTEE
Functions of the Committee The Committee is expected to –
Screen the nominees using the criteria set forth in the Alumni Achievement Awards;
Come up with a short list of nominees to be endorsed to the University Level Committee. For a nominee to be included in the shortlist, s/he must be unanimously endorsed by the members of the committee.
Criteria for the Alumni Achievement Awards
Each nomination must be supported by documents required by the Alumni Achievement Awards 2017. The required documents may be waived by the Committee when the Committee finds it fitting and necessary.
The Criteria are as follows:
Exemplary achievement in the profession or chosen field, regardless of degree earned and wherever they are:
Recognition for outstanding national/international achievement
Recognition for outstanding municipal/provincial achievement
Recognition for outstanding institutional/organizational/professional achievement
Commitment to the ideals of the University of San Agustin:
Awards the nominee gathered that exemplify Unity, Truth and Charity
Participation in special projects and programs that promote Unity, Truth and Charity
Length of service rendered to the University
Participation in University activities, special projects and programs to promote the interest of the University to include, but not limited to, donations in support of USA advocacies, attendance in reunions, gatherings and other special events, etc.
Recognition for outstanding service to the community through awards, citations, certifications, etc.
Advisorship/consultancy in one’s field of expertise for community projects and programs
Participation in community projects or activities
Active membership in religious, civic, or social organizations that render community service
Other community or related services acceptable to the Committee
Abidance to local, national and international laws
Abidance to the codes of conduct of the organization or professional associations where the nominee is associated with
Abidance to the unwritten moral values and norms that are expected of a person
2014 alumni achievement awardees
THE 110-year-old University of San Agustin has released the names of past students who will receive the Alumni Achievement Award and the Distinguished Alumni Award in solemn rites today, February 28, in the University of San Agustin.
The 63 USA Alumni Achievement Awards recipients are the following:
CULTURE, ARTS AND MEDIA: Theater Director, Ford Foundation Fellow, and US-trained Master of Arts Management, Eric Divinagracia; composer and choir master conductor Arne Lubasan; ace TV newscaster and journalist Charlotte Tan-Mabilog; composer and pianist Gerard Muyuela; multi-awarded national TV anchorman and writer Stanley Palisada; TV newscaster and cultural heritage conservation advocate Jobert Penaflorida; leading fashion designer and indigenous fabric advocate Jaki Penalosa; author, professor, dean, and Folk Literature scholar, Dr. Amorita Rabuco (posthumous); National Commission on Culture and Arts awardee for Fashion and one of Asia’s top designers Eric De Los Santos; and World Olympics for the Performing Arts Hall of Famer, multi-awarded pop singer John Edward “Jed Madela” Tajanlangit;

Distinguished Alumni Awards The University will also hand out the Distinguished Alumni Award to five alumni who have distinguished themselves in serving the community, and promoting the common good. The recipients of this year’s Distinguished Alumni Award are the following: Urban Leadership, Pinoy Icon for Women’s Rights and Ten Outstanding Women of Iloilo awardee Ma. Sonia Cardonigara for her work for the empowerment of and decent shelter for the urban poor; former CBCP President and Aurora Aragon Quezon Peace awardee, Archbishop Emeritus Fernando Capalla; Papal “Pro Ecclesiae et Pontifice” citation recipient for her generous support to the Church, Mrs. Imelda Florete; Former Society of Jesus Provincial Superior and Joaquin “Chino” Roces Freedom awardee for his human rights and liberation advocacy, Fr. Romeo “Archie” Intengan, S.J.; and Multiple Paul Harris Fellow, Rotary International Past District Governor, Red Cross Chair and former Governor, Fire Brigade volunteer-leader; Filipino-Chinese Chamber president, and Dinagyang Foundation Chair, Ramon Cua Locsin. In the same ceremonies, the University will also pay tribute to past Friar-Administrators, led by the following former University Presidents: Fr. Mamerto Alfeche, OSA; Fr. Eusebio Berdon, OSA; Fr. Manuel Vergara, OSA; and Fr. Raul Marchan, OSA.
Each of the awardees will get a specially-made trophy from the University, officially represented in the ceremonies by the University Board of Trustees Chair, Fr. Eusebio Berdon, OSA and University President, Fr. Frederick Comendador, OSA.
