Augustinian Prior General graces provincial chapter

Most Rev. Robert Prevost, O.S.A., Prior General of the Order is currently in the city of Iloilo presiding the 6th Intermediate Provincial Chapter of the Augustinian Province of Sto. Niño de Cebu-Philippines.  Hosted by the University of San Agustin, the chapter runs from 27 February to 03 March 2006.

The Intermediate Provincial Chapter is held once every four years “in order to evaluate the execution of the program prescribed by the ordinary chapter, to seek solutions and to find still better means for rendering the program more effective.”  Headed by Very Rev. Fr. Jerome P. Mesina, O.S.A., Prior Provincial, this year’s chapter gathered almost thirty friar-delegates from the different local communities of the province of Sto. Niño de Cebu-Philippines.  Also gracing the chapter is Very Rev. Fr. Eusebio M. Berdon, O.S.A., Assistant General for the Asia-Pacific Region, and former president of the University of San Agustin.

The Province of Sto. Niño de Cebu-Philippines, is one of the provinces of the Order of Saint Augustine (O.S.A.) which is one of the oldest religious orders in the world.  Established in 1256, the O.S.A. is currently undertaking missions in more than forty countries across the globe -- running schools, parishes, spirituality centers, among others.  The Augustinians were the first missionaries to set foot on the Philippine soil.  They arrived with Miguel Lopez de Legaspi in 1565.
